Apple 3G iPhone Reviewed

Sunday, July 20th, 2008 | Cell Phone with No Comments »

The world of wireless technology saw a breakthrough with the launch of the APPLE 3G I-Phone. This dynamic phone redefines technology & strengthens Apple’s hold on the smart phone arena. Needless to say, good things may also come with some flaws; the 3G I-Phone also has a few. Camera still lacks auto-focus and video recording. The battery life is shorter due to the 3G capabilities. With the battery not freely available, you need to visit the Apple outlet to buy a spare. Plastic back may not appeal for users who relish the delight of a striking metal look.  And lastly, with no dock included you need to pay extra for the power adapter.

Of course, the iPhone also has its good points.  Fortunately the good outweighs the bad as far as the iPhone 3G goes. Below, we have listed the good points of the iPhone 3G.  Here’s the details on this irresistible gadget:

  • Broader dimensions of 115.5×62.1×12.3 mm, lighter weight at 133g
  • Flush headphone jack to use any 3.5mm headphones of user’s choice
  • SIM eject tool in the box enables conveniently removing the SIM card at ease
  • Talk while you surf - an improved feature not found in earlier I-Phones
  • Bunch of radio services with WI-FI, GSM, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, and Blue Tooth
  • WI-FI works well with good binding with all networks, no connectivity issues
  • Improved call quality in terms of 3G calls and GSM calls
  • Built-in GPS chip and enhanced speed on data transfers than GPRS or EDGE
  • AGPS service is a better choice, specifically pointing out locations in detail
  • Visual voicemail facilitates easy access to voicemails
  • Enhanced email application, good HTML backup and auto-configuration to check mails periodically
  • Wide array of applications downloads possible, some are free while the others cost a few dollars
  • Battery life of 300 hrs stand-by, 5 hrs on 3G, 10 hrs on GSM, 6 hrs on WI-FI, 24 hrs on music, 7 hrs video

In conclusion, the Apple 3G may come at half the price of the old I-Phone, but the $199.00 price tag is just a contract agreement for 2 years, and maybe after this it would cost the same as your old I-Phone. But still it stands out in features in the smart phone market and is a recommended “buy”!

Enter The AMD ATI Radeon HD 4850

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 | Computer with No Comments »

When it comes to video cards, I am always looking for the latest and greatest ones available. All of the top manufacturers seem to be coming out with some new chipset or 3-D graphics engine that outperforms its predecessors. So, when I saw this new card I was a little excited.

AMD’s new ATI Radeon HD 4850 is very competitive with the Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+. What’s even more exciting is the fact that this card seems to scale better in the dual-card Crossfire mode than anything that Nvidia has for the same price. The ATI card is also only single-slot architecture, which gives you more flexibility in the kind of system you can use it with.

The test numbers look pretty good as the ATI Radeon HD 4850 stands up to the competition very well. The card costs around $199.00, so is still a good deal for the performance you get. The only problem I see is the fact that it tends to run very hot. That aside, it is a very affordable mid-range video card.

The Jabra SP5050 Speaks Out

Thursday, July 10th, 2008 | Cell Phone with No Comments »

When it comes to hands-free devices, the Jabra SP5050 is one of the lightest weight devices I’ve used. Weighing in at only 2.6 ounces, this cool speakerphone is light and small enough to put just about anywhere. It is also very slim measuring only 2.3” wide by 4.9” long and only 0.4” thick. The one I own is black with a nice silver trim and speaker grille on the front. The buttons are large enough to see yet small enough not to be obtrusive in their appearance. The main volume buttons are located on the side of the unit out of the way. On the top of the unit you find the LED display with four icon indicators for power, Bluetooth connectivity, call status, and battery strength. As far as the multifunction button goes, it’s actually the entire top half of the front surface, right under the Jabra logo.

The Jabra goes into pairing mode the first time you power it up, making it extremely easy to set up with cell phone devices. The call quality is very decent. The unit comes with DSP (digital signal processing) that helps with reducing background noise, which is quite helpful.

Other features include typical answering, ending, and rejecting calls, plus it supports last number redial, call mute, voice dialing, and a night driving mode - this shuts off the LED lights at night so your eyes don’t get distracted. You also have the ability to transfer calls from the phone to the speakerphone and vice versa. The Jabra SP5050 only comes with an in-car charger and no AC adapter, however all-in-all this is definitely an excellent choice in phone accessory must haves.

X-Ray Vision At The Airport: Security or Privacy Invasion?

Friday, July 4th, 2008 | Travelling with No Comments »

Vacation is supposed to be a time to relax. If you need to fly to your destination, then you are going to be stressed out before you get a chance to relax, trust me! We all dread going to the Airport and waiting in long lines with half a dozen suitcases. And now with the new security screening measures, its gotten even more tormenting. As if traveling wasn’t stressful enough! Many of us aren’t really comfortable flying and Airports are very stressful places to be.

Now, the TSA has decided to make matters worse. Is it not enough that we get pushed around by the TSA security screeners yelling at us, going through our valuables and making fools of us all. What could possibly make the current conditions worse at airport security checkpoints you ask? How about full body scanners that actually look through our clothing and allow the TSA screeners to see our naked bodies? That’s right, starting with Logan International Airport in Boston, MA the TSA will start using these so-called full-body scanners. They are planning to outfit the airport in October or November. The scanners produce 3D images of people’s naked bodies. The TSA has said that procedures will be implemented to protect passenger privacy. The technology “allows us to screen passengers for any prohibited items quickly and unobtrusively,” said George Naccara, the TSA’s federal security director for Logan. “Efficiency and effectiveness will improve with whole-body imaging.”

I’m all for security, but I believe the TSA has gone too far with this one. What do you think?
