Nokia N-Gage First Access

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007 | Cell Phone with 1 Comment

Nokia announced that Nokia N81 users would get a pre-release preview of the new Nokia N-Gage (called the Nokia N-Gage First Access) before Christmas. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. According to the N-Gage blog:

Unfortunately, as can sometimes happen in software development, unexpected difficulties can occur. We have been doing an internal run with more than 1,000 global testers this week, and during this process we uncovered an issue we feel we need to address. Overall, the games and service are working smoothly, but because of this issue, we feel we could not release N-Gage First Access before the holidays as planned.

Don’t make us wait too long, Nokia. We might forget all about N-Gage in a few months’ time, after all. Thanks to MobileWhack for source.

Yet another phone straight outta’ Korea. This time it’s Pantech’s Sky IM-S250L, featuring things like a 1.3 mp camera, electronic dictionary, and MP3. Also featured, among other things, on the IM-S250L is a QVGA screen, and internet radio capabilities. Don’t expect the IM-250L in the states anytime soon, but of course you can still get mad at the Koreans for getting all the cool stuff faster than us. :)Via: Newswire.co.kr

Samsung F490 and P720 Previewed in Ukraine

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007 | Cell Phone with 1 Comment

In Ukraine, the local Samsung team held a press conference for the new line of Samsung mobile phone models. The others were already well-known to the world at large but the F490 and P720 weren’t — most especially the latter. Both are touch-screen phones with the F490 sporting a 5-megapixel digital camera and with a projected $600 price tag. The P720 turns out to be Asian and Eastern European version of the Samsung P520 Armani. It has a 3-megapixel camera as well as the rest of the features of the P520. It, however, has a dual SIM capability. There are no release dates for either phone as of yet but things are looking positive from this recent spotting.

LG Super Blu BH200 HD DVD / Blu-ray Dual Player Reviewed

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007 | HD with No Comments »

LG Super Blu BH200 HD DVD / Blu-ray Dual Player

HomeTheater Mag has reviewed LG BH200, a HD DVD / Blu-ray Dual format player. LG BH200 is a player that can play both HD DVD and Blu-ray High Definition Video discs. It comes with also an Ethernet jack and USB port.

    Conclusion from HomeTheater Mag:

    • Stunning image from Blu-ray and HD DVD discs
    • Superb video processing makes this an excellent upconverting player
    • The convenience of one machine that will play all the most widely available SD and HD video discs
    • Seriously limited in its ability to play back the newest, high resolution audio codecs
    • Playback gamma is atypical
    • Expensive

It’s convenient. It takes up less space. And there’s no hesitation as to which disc goes in which machine. The LG Super Blu is an answer to those concerns, and currently the only such player on the market, though another is expected soon, from Samsung.

The LG Super Blu BH200 produces great pictures on all discs, apart from that little gamma issue which may perhaps be correctable in firmware. Its physical operation is slick, and while not completely devoid of the occasional glitch, none of them were overly troubling.
