X-Ray Vision At The Airport: Security or Privacy Invasion?

Friday, July 4th, 2008 | Travelling with No Comments »

Vacation is supposed to be a time to relax. If you need to fly to your destination, then you are going to be stressed out before you get a chance to relax, trust me! We all dread going to the Airport and waiting in long lines with half a dozen suitcases. And now with the new security screening measures, its gotten even more tormenting. As if traveling wasn’t stressful enough! Many of us aren’t really comfortable flying and Airports are very stressful places to be.

Now, the TSA has decided to make matters worse. Is it not enough that we get pushed around by the TSA security screeners yelling at us, going through our valuables and making fools of us all. What could possibly make the current conditions worse at airport security checkpoints you ask? How about full body scanners that actually look through our clothing and allow the TSA screeners to see our naked bodies? That’s right, starting with Logan International Airport in Boston, MA the TSA will start using these so-called full-body scanners. They are planning to outfit the airport in October or November. The scanners produce 3D images of people’s naked bodies. The TSA has said that procedures will be implemented to protect passenger privacy. The technology “allows us to screen passengers for any prohibited items quickly and unobtrusively,” said George Naccara, the TSA’s federal security director for Logan. “Efficiency and effectiveness will improve with whole-body imaging.”

I’m all for security, but I believe the TSA has gone too far with this one. What do you think?

The Deadliest Catch Hits The XBOX 360

Thursday, June 26th, 2008 | Game with No Comments »

One of my favorite shows on TV right now has got to be The Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. The show is currently in its fourth season and is full of excitement. It is a very exciting documentary-style reality show which features crews that fish for crab in the Bering Sea and battle the elements of Mother Nature. These fishing crews risk their lives on an almost daily basis just to complete their jobs. So when the game came out on XBOX 360 I had to check it out.

Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm puts you in the captain’s chair in charge of a crew that you get to select at the beginning of the game. You must pick your crew wisely in order to get the job done of bringing back as much crabs as possible to offload at the port. All of this precious cargo must be kept alive so you have to constantly juggle between getting enough fishing time in to getting back to port and transporting the crab there alive and well. The more crabs that you and you crew can safely get back to each port alive, the more money you all make.

The game has some fantastic graphics in it and keeps you very intrigued the whole time. The only thing I don’t like about it is the fact that you can’t get in on the fun down on the boat deck and get your hands dirty. Hopefully a sequel comes out that allows these aspects of the game, but other than that I recommend it to any hardcore Deadliest Catch fans out there.

A New Graphics Chip From Nvidia

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 | Computer with No Comments »

A new Graphics chip from Nvidia, the GeForce GTX280 is the latest of a new line of high-end GPUs to be introduced by this leader in graphics chip design. The latest and greatest GTX280 includes powerful 3D graphics and is one of the first graphics cards that can take over application tasks. It comes at an expensive price, however and is definitely in the high-end department of graphics chips. The price comes in around $650.00, which is currently the most expensive single-chip 3D card being sold on the market today.

Besides being the most expensive single-chip card, the GTX280 is also the fastest single-chip for 3D Gaming on the market today. And the card is the newest addition to Nvidia’s push at GPU-based processing cards. Now, if you think you need a $650.00 graphics card and can’t do without it, then by all means go get one! I, for one will have to wait and save up for it all, but I will tell you that this card is very intriguing and the fact that it can speed up graphics-intensive programs and work well with graphics-intensive operating systems, such as Windows Vista has this graphics card in my sights. If you’re thinking on getting this card, drop me a line and tell me all about it. Thanks!

Emergency Backup Battery For Your Cell Phone

Thursday, June 12th, 2008 | Cell Phone with No Comments »

While browsing through the latest gadgets the other day at my local shop, I noticed something I hadn’t seen yet. It was a backup battery for different cell phones. I quickly began looking at all the different models supported and was very impressed by the list of supported devices. It’s a neat concept because nothing is worse than being away and your cell phone battery running low and about to die on you. Many of us have been in this predicament and it always seems to happen when you least expect and when you can’t afford for it to happen. A very frustrating experience indeed. So, I was very intrigued by these portable throw-away emergency battery backups that gave you an additional 1-2 hours of backup power. It really comes in handy for the traveler in a foreign and unfamiliar place. It definitely gives you peace of mind knowing that you have an emergency backup system just in case. I’ll be taking one with me the next time I travel – you can count on that!

A Performance PC At A Low Price

Saturday, June 7th, 2008 | Computer with No Comments »

When looking for a budget PC that performs well and does a fairly good job of rendering graphics quality games and resource-intensive software, the choices haven’t been too great. Most of us that can’t afford the $2000.00 plus price tag of a really nice PC have been forced to buy a budget PC. Most budget PCs have a hard enough time utilizing the Vista Operating System, let alone a 3D quality game or even your favorite software application. Enter the Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop Computer (budget). Coming in at around $700.00, this performance and budget-minded desktop utilizes the AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core Processor and sports a robust 3GB of RAM.

The Acer Aspire M5100 is an excellent desktop that can hold its own in the performance department and doesn’t cost an arm and leg in doing so. It is a good choice for thos on a budget not willing to blow their paychecks on a higher end PC. If you’re looking for a PC that offers a step above the standard budget PC, the Acer Aspire M5100 is for you.

A 24″ Display You Can’t Do Without

Friday, May 30th, 2008 | Computer with No Comments »

I’ve really been looking for a new monitor lately and need to replace my old 15-inch display. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older and can’t make out the letters and icons on the screen or if it’s because I just want the latest big screen monitor. It’s definitely the latter. I’m such a gadget sort of guy and decided to look around for the biggest, brightest and sharpest monitor I could find. I checked out plenty of new monitors and finally decided on the Dell UltraSharp 2408 WFP. This 24-inch beauty is very pleasing to look at and has all the features you’d expect. At a little under $600.00 it is feature-packed. It is a wonderful entertainment display and displays HD quality movies with its 1920×1200 resolution capabilities

I also like the many video connections as it has most, if not all of the possible connection scenarios you could imagine. It has a VGA port, 2 DVI hookups, DisplayPort, a component port and composite ports. Additionally, there is a speaker port, 4 USB ports and card reader in SD and CompactFlash formats.

Your Online Business May Need Guaranteed Signups

Sunday, May 25th, 2008 | Service with No Comments »

Owning your own successful business is the American dream. It is a dream we would all like to see come true so we can relax and spend more time with our families and loved ones. Many of us have turned to the Internet in order to fulfill, or at least start our dream of one day being self-employed and successful. With the advent and popularity of the Internet, it is easier than ever to get started in this venture. An online business venture can be started with little to no capital, and there are thousands of different opportunities out there. You should pick and choose wisely which online business venture you want to get into. The one thing you need to keep in mind is that success takes time and work. You must be willing to put in time and work hard at your new business. You also need to establish good business partners and strategic relationships pertinent to your business.

Many online businesses depend on getting customers to either join under an affiliate ID or pay their way into a business under a sponsor’s affiliate ID. There are various way to acquire signups for your new business venture and different ways to advertise for it. While advertising for these customers will almost always provide some type of results, it can be very expensive. The newest and most successful way I have heard of for getting customers to join under you is to pay for a Guaranteed Signup service. Guranteed Signups in my opinion are the most cost-effective method for a successful business venture that depends on a customer signing or joining your business.

There are plenty of suppliers out there offering signups. What you need to look for is a company that offers non-incentivized signups. Non-incentivized signups are people that have not been coerced or paid in any way to join your offer. These signups are much better quality and more apt to sign up. There is a much greater chance that they will eventually buy into your program because these signups are genuine and interested in what you have to offer. This is probably the most important feature of a signup and one of the most overlooked aspects of the service. Don’t fall for the coerced type as they are looking for a quick buck and only sign up for your offer to get the money. Once they are paid, you more than likely won’t hear from them again.

Country-targeted signups are also very popular, and my favorite type is the USA variety because it is my favorite target market. I personally use Guaranteed USA Signups from TrafficSignups.com. This company offers the non-incentivized type and also have a 7-day rush delivery option for those in a hurry.

Nintendo Wii Still On Top

Monday, May 12th, 2008 | Game with No Comments »

Out of the big three gaming consoles, the Nintendo Wii is still the hottest one out there. Sales for the popular Wii console have topped 24 million units since its introduction in November of 2006. The Wii has sold more than double what the PS3 has sold and more than 5 million additional units than the Microsoft XBOX 360. These are just staggering numbers and the Wii enjoys huge popularity amongst gamers. So why is the Wii outselling the two game consoles we all thought would be on top? Who knows, but one thing is for certain, most of the games developed for Wii have come from Nintendo itself and they are not that great. Compared to games available for the Sony PS3 and Microsoft XBOX 360, the games for the Wii don’t come close in quality or quantity.

As the Wii dominates the market, Nintendo is sitting pretty in the top spot, a place it hasn’t been in over ten years. The fact is that people like the Wii and continue to buy the games and the consoles. Even with the influx of junk titles coming out, you would think Nintendo would do something, but why? If people buy it then why change things?

Cool Remote - Hefty Price

Monday, May 5th, 2008 | TV with No Comments »

Well, I must say that if anybody needs one remote in their house to do everything – it’s me. I have 7 remote controls and to grab each one of them to do just one task is really getting on my nerves. My 10 month old daughter is also having loads of fun grabbing each remote, playing with it then hiding it so I can’t find it. This makes it even worse of a situation for me when trying to watch TV.

Enter the Harmony 1000 from Logitech. This baby features a 3.5” touch screen (color) that lets you combine all of your remote control devices into one. Not only is the Harmony pretty to look out, it’s just darn-right cool to use. Setting up is a breeze utilizing the Smart State Technology and color touch-screen display. Nothing complicated here, so it’s pretty easy to use. One other cool thing I really liked about this remote was the fact that it transmits in either infrared mode or RF mode by use of an optional RF wireless extender, which lets you put everything behind a cabinet to keep the clutter down.

Now the one thing I definitely don’t like about this remote is the steep price. At around $400-$500 I don’t think I will be getting one any time soon. In fact, if you ask me Logitech should have included the RF device for the price they are asking.

A Gift From The Feds

Monday, April 21st, 2008 | Money & Finance with No Comments »

For most of us the new stimulus check which will arrive in our mailbox from the Federal Government is a long-awaited event, and is one to be celebrated. It’s not every day that the Fed actually pays us. We are so used to paying the Government our hard earned money that to actually get something back is a miracle in itself. The IRS states that millions of these economic stimulus checks are to be sent out between May 2nd and July 11th of this year.

To make matters even better for all of us taxpayers, the IRS has a website up with a special tool providing a date of when we can expect our checks. Now, the program only gives us an estimated time frame of when to expect the check and is based on the last two numbers in your SSN. Before plugging your SSN into the system, make sure that you are on a secure computer.
